Ultimate Summer Bucket List Ideas For Long Distance Couples

summer bucket list

Summer is the best time of the year to try things you’ve never done before. It is the season for  adventure. But it can be challenging for couples who are miles apart to enjoy the summer season together and not be cooped up indoors on the phone the entire time.

However, with a bit of creativity and spontaneity, long-distance couples can still enjoy a fulfilling and memorable summer together. This summer bucket list is designed to help you stay connected with your online long distance partner and have fun creating summer memories, even when you’re not physically together.

Summer Activities to Do Over the Phone With Your LDR Partner

summer bucket list ideas
  1. Movie Nights: Watch the best summer movies like The Parent Trap, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Dirty Dancing, or What About Bob. If none of these seem to be to your taste, there are plenty of summer movies out there, so look up your favorite, choose a movie, start at the same time, and enjoy the show together.
  2. Trivia Night: Challenge each other with a trivia quiz on various topics.
  3. Online Video Games: Play your favorite online games together. There are plenty of free online games, just find what you like and compete with each other.
  4. Virtual Workout: Join a dance, yoga, or fitness class online and keep each other motivated.
  5. Geoguessr: Explore the world virtually and guess locations together with this fun geography-themed website. Although they’ve limited a lot of free gaming activity recently, it’s still worth the fun of exploring the world together from the computer.
  6. Guess the country: If you want to do a free version of Geoguessr, something my partner and I used to do is send pictures of random country landscapes to each other and we try to guess the country. It’s a fun way to pass the time and quiz each other. And, you’ll be inspired to travel all over the world with your partner.
  7. Paint Outside Together: Set up your easels and canvases outdoors and paint while on a video call. If painting is too expensive or not your style, of course you can take up drawing as well. Just get outside and do something creative together.
  8. Charades or Pictionary: Play these classic games over video call for a ton of laughs. Whether you’re good or bad at these games, it doesn’t matter. Laughing so hysterically with your partner is the goal.
  9. Hiking or Walks: Go for a walk or hike and share the experience through video calls. Make sure you have good network coverage though, or else it’s a bit pointless.
  10. Cooking/Baking Session: Try a new recipe together and enjoy the same meal together, no matter the varying quality of the dishes you create.
  11. Watch the Sunrise/Sunset Together: Take your phone calls outside during sunrise or sunset and enjoy the view together.
  12. Online Games: Play games like Scrabble or chess online for some challenging brain games.
  13. Watch a Bad Movie: Pick a cheesy movie and have fun making jokes about it together. I recommend looking up the worst movies on imdb, or watch movies that have been popularly known to be horrible and funny. Some movies we really enjoyed were Titanic 2, Dhoom, and any Neil Breen movie. There are plenty more out there to enjoy.
  14. Chopped Challenge: Use the same three ingredients to create different dishes, using other ingredients as well if needed, and compare results.
  15. Take On a New Hobby: Learn something new together, like painting or photography.
  16. Stargazing: If you’re in the same time zone, stargaze and enjoy the night skies together.
  17. Get Takeout Together: Order from a cuisine you’ve never tried before and enjoy new foods together.
  18. Virtual Museum Tours: Explore museums online, there are plenty of online tours available, especially after Covid, so anyone can take a virtual trip from anywhere.
  19. Plan a Future Visit: Dream about your future trip and plan out the next time you’ll see each other. Come up with an itinerary of everything you want to do and places you want to go together.
  20. Virtual Picnic: Pack your favorite foods and have a picnic outside while on a video call.
  21. Draw Each Other: Try drawing pictures of each other (no matter how horrible) and compare your ‘artwork’.
  22. Online Puzzles: Solve jigsaw or crossword puzzles together online.
  23. Take an Online Class: Learn something new by taking a class together online.
  24. Farmers Market Visits: Visit farmers markets, sharing photos and videos of your local area.
  25. Bake a Pie Together: Use fresh fruits that you collected from the farmers market to bake pies together. Whether it be apple or blueberry pie, enjoy baking together and share your results.
  26. Photo Scavenger Hunt: Create a summer-themed scavenger hunt. For instance, make a list of things to find in your local area and share your photos. This can be a fun way to explore and share your experiences.

  3. Fitness Challenge: Set shared fitness goals and support each other in achieving them.
  4. Gardening Challenge: Start a small garden or plant a few flowers together and compare your progress.

Other Summer Bucket List Ideas

  1. Write Handwritten Letters: Send each other handwritten letters the old fashioned way. Don’t forget to include little paper gifts. Check out this post for more ideas.

  3. Share a Playlist: Make a playlist of your favorite summer songs and share it with each other.

While it’s easy to spend all your time on the phone with your long-distance partner, it’s important to also enjoy the summer with family and friends.
